Traumatic brain injury (#TBI) is a brain injury caused by an external force. Even though there are massive studies about its pathophysiology, effective treatments for TBI are still lacking. This new review by Srihagulang et al. (Jan. 2022) summarized the preclinical and clinical evidence for the beneficial effects of vagus nerve stimulation (#VNS) on TBI and discussed the possible mechanisms, including its effects of neurotransmitter regulation, anti-inflammation, attenuation the breakdown of the blood-brain barrier and brain edema, and noradrenergic mechanism.
