This new publication by Khoo et al. elucidates the reasons for not proceeding with surgical treatment after a surgical evaluation of focal drug resistant #epilepsy (#DRE) has been performed. The study showed that, for half of the patient population (51%), physicians and/or the patients themselves decided not to proceed with #surgery post presurgical evaluation. The most common rationales behind this decision were failure to identify the epileptogenic zone, multifocal epilepsy or the patients themselves opting not to continue with surgery or intracranial electroencephalography (#icEEG).

By identifying and comparing clinical data and patient characteristic, the probability of a patient being suitable for epileptic surgery can be considered before a time-consuming and expensive surgical evaluation is performed.
