This #review by Reif-Leonhard et al. (Apr. 2022) discussed the scientific and clinical evidence for vagus nerve stimulation (#VNS) as an adjunct treatment for treatment-resistant depression (#TRD). Patient selection, perioperative management, follow-up including dosing, and a comparison of international #guidelines for VNS were discussed.

Results showed that VNS is an approved, effective, and long-term therapy for TRD. More evidence for the sham-controlled studies with long-term follow-up was needed.
