Have a look at this new publication by Freund et al. 2022 that #retrospectively analyses trends in the usage of dual #neurostimulation (active vagus nerve stimulation, #VNS, in combination with responsive neurostimulation, #RNS, or deep brain stimulation, #DBS) as a treatment for drug resistant epilepsy (#DRE), based on information from the Mayo Clinic database in Florida (1998-2021).

The study identified prior VNS effectiveness to be more common in patients undergoing DBS surgery. Furthermore, invasive electroencephalographic (#EEG) monitoring was more frequently observed for the patients receiving RNS therapy. The simultaneous use of two different neurostimulation therapies appeared to be safe.
