Hot of the press - This new #review by Kamel et al. provides an updated overview of vagus nerve stimulation (#VNS) therapy in treatment-resistant #depression (#TRD). The review covers #antidepressant effect of VNS therapy, neuroanatomy of the vagus nerve and proposed mechanism of action (#MOA).

Published evidence over the last two decades show that the antidepressant beneficial effects occur over several months and are long-lasting. Further, the studies also support that VNS therapy can improve quality of life (#QOL) and may lower #suicidality.
