Hot Off The Press - This work by Goggins et al. (May 2022) reviewed the #preclinical and #clinical evidence for evaluating the treatment effect of vagus nerve stimulation (#VNS) in drug resistant epilepsy (#DRE).

The #mechanisms that VNS can reduce excitability in different brain regions, adjust the release of neurotransmitters and its anti-inflammatory effect on epilepsy were discussed in the article. Moreover, the treatment effects of VNS in other diseases, including depression, obesity, and headache, were discussed.
